CAVR PUBLIC HEARING ON POLITICAL CONFLICT POSTPONED

The CAVR Chairperson, Mr Aniceto Guterres Lopes, announced today that CAVR will postpone its Public Hearing on the theme of 'Political Conflict 1974-1976'. The Hearing was scheduled to be held 3-6 November 2003.

The CAVR Chairperson also announced that a Public Hearing on Massacres will be held 19-21 November 2003. This Hearing will be held at the CAVR National Office in Dili.

The CAVR Chairperson said the Hearing on Political Conflict had been postponed because of difficulties in finding a date that suited the busy schedule of key political leaders and also to allow the political parties more time to prepare. 'Unlike other Public Hearings, the Hearing on Political Conflict requires the participation of many of our national leaders. Postponing the Hearing will allow maximum participation by our leaders and better preparation for this important event', said Mr Aniceto Guterres Lopes.

The CAVR Chairperson added that he was hopeful that a Public Hearing on Political Conflict would be held before Christmas.

CAVR will facilitate a major community reconciliation in Hera, 28-29 November. The community reconciliation will involve 16 former members of the Aitarak militia and will be held at the Hera/Metinaro, Asrama FDTL, commencing at 9.30 am on both days. This Hearing is open to the public.
